On October 6th, our Recruitment Marketing Specialist and Deputy CEO Emma Murray attended the Recruitment Agency Expo at the NEC Birmingham. An event gathering recruitment professionals, vendors and thought leaders, the Expo is an industry highlight and reliably pushes the boundaries of how we approach and plan for the recruitment marketing world around us.

The Perfect Storm

We’ve all been faced with remarkably challenging recruitment conditions. Between a global pandemic, Brexit and an economic downturn, discussions of future recruitment trends and how to weather the recruitment storm could not have come at a better time. Competition for talent is high. Retention is challenging. Companies large and small are arming themselves with the best recruitment techniques possible to allow for their continued growth and success.

What’s Ahead for Recruitment

The Birmingham Expo covered every pressing recruitment concern. From the continued importance of diversity and inclusion in recruitment marketing to recruitment via TikTok. From international candidate recruitment to collaboration and job sharing. For Emma, the stand out sessions were those covering the future recruitment trends; discussion around recruitment of older workers  (a category often overlooked), and how to stay on top of social media when it comes to maximising output in recruitment. With endless social media evolution from new platforms to updated algorithms, Emma found discussions around how to navigate this terrain in order to deliver quality results to be hugely beneficial.

Above all the Expo underlined what we’ve long recognised: that the pressures of the market mean companies have no option but to act. It’s vital to improve employer marketing   to underpin, attract and retain the right talent. Absenting yourself from doing that means an inevitable struggle to retain and grow your team and with everything else to contend with, we can’t imagine that would be on any company’s wish list.
